FREE YOUR SHOULDERS

Friday 17th April 6.15-7.45pm

This is the first of a trio of special workshops exploring areas that students often struggle with in practice.
Love Your Hips (27 March)
Free Your Shoulders (17 April)
Let’s Twist Again (8 May)
Each session focuses on understanding how these parts of the body move, and how to work with them more effectively in your yoga practice. Through a mix of mobility work, strengthening, alignment, and breath, you’ll learn how to build strength, create space, and move with more ease and confidence.

In Ashtanga yoga the shoulders can be overworked through repeating the same movements again and again.
In this session we’ll look at how the shoulders function and how to keep them strong and safe in practice.
The focus will be on building support from the back, core, and trunk muscles so the shoulders aren’t carrying the whole load.
This is especially important for women, who often rely more on shoulder strength and can be prone to strain, even more so in perimenopause as estrogen levels drop.
Through simple mobility, stretching and strengthening work, plus clear alignment cues, we’ll explore how to better understand, support and free up your shoulders to maintain a long term, sustainable practice..
We’ll finish with a relaxing restorative pose.
